Deidre McCalla - Guitar Lessons for Adults and Kids

A great teacher is one who realizes that he himself is also a student and whose goal is not to dictate the answers, but to stimulate his students' creativity enough so that they go out and find the answers themselves. -
Herbie Hancock

Music and performance have been my life-long passion and pursuit. Sharing this joy with others through teaching has been an equally constant companion. Some students, especially my adult learners, want to play the guitar simply for their own enjoyment; other students want to be rock stars. My job is to provide a safe and nurturing environment in which each student is given the tools she or he needs to achieve their goals.

Guitar lessons for all students are 30 minutes weekly in the same time slot. I bill $88 monthly for 4 lessons. There is no contract; we work together on a month-month basis.

For the aspiring guitarist, the most important skills to develop are familiarity with basic chords and transitioning between them easily. Technique, scales, standard notation, tablature, and music theory are taught in an integrated manner. Lessons are shaped around the musical interests of the student and geared to their learning style. Beginning guitar or intermediate students (8+) interested in any style of music are welcome though I do not teach classical. Beginning students focus on basics and fundamentals. Intermediate students explore the various genres of music such as pop, singer-songwriter, folk, and country. Performance coaching is available to all students interested in developing their onstage presence.

The guitar is an amazing instrument. What are you waiting for? Let the journey begin
